7 Questions to Ask Yourself To Begin to Discover Your Life’s Purpose

Feb 19, 2019

Tell me. Do you ever find yourself asking…

Who am I?

What am I doing with my life?

I can relate.

And I know one thing is for sure when you ask these questions:

You feel like your current life circumstances are no longer enough for you.

You have a beautiful life.

… a lot to be thankful for.

And you know this.

But at the end of the day something’s missing.

You don’t like how you’re showing up.

… like you’re not putting your best Self in the game of life.

Perhaps you’re impatient, late, indulging in bad habits and/or distracted by the latest online shopping deal of the moment.

Whatever it is, you’re self-sabotaging.

Distracting yourself from the very “Q’s” that linger on and on in your brain – Unanswered!

Who am I?

What am I supposed to be doing with my life?

I hear these questions in my coaching practice often. And I am hearing them from everyone – even the people who seem to have “made it” BIG in life – on the outside.

You are not alone.

We all have moments where we question who and what we are, not matter where we’re at in life.

If you find yourself in this place, you’re in search of purpose and meaning.

Your soul is saying…

I want to feel purposeful.

I want to feel aligned.

I have so much to be grateful for, and I just want to be clear that I’m on the right path.

I want to be connected and in-sync with the people around me. No more conflict.

But you’re left feeling like you have no idea how to do it. Any of it.

That’s where I come in.

If you are in this kind of “questioning phase,” you may be in search of Purpose and I’m going to help you discover it!

What is a purpose?

Before I show you how to discover your purpose, let’s define what a “purpose” really is…

A purpose is a “knowing” that grounds you and anchors your actions in this life.

Your purpose is your AIM.

Once you identify your AIM – your actions will either be aligned or misaligned. With this awareness you have clarity – and with clarity, there’s nothing you can’t do!

This is why identifying our purpose is so important.

When you are uncomfortable, you will more easily be able to see the root of your discomfort.

You are either on track or off track. And the beauty of this life is we always have a choice. When you decide you’re DONE being stuck, you can change your actions and renavigate back to your “path” at any time.

Characteristics of a Purpose.

Your purpose grounds you and gives you guidance for self expression.

You may be wondering what that even means. Let me share my story as an example…

When I set out to find my purpose, I knew it had to do with helping people. I loved being that girl my friends would come to to talk about their relationship problems. They would come to me for my no B.S. direct, responses that would inspire them to leap forward into powerful action.

They did not come to me to complain and stay “stuck.”

At the time I was studying at Integrative Nutrition, healing from my disordered eating habits, and learning to build a Health Coaching business online.  I thought becoming a Health Coach was it!

And it was, for a period of time.

Until I came back to that BIG life “Q” : “what am I doing what my life?” and I had to explore what was missing.

I was not feeling fulfilled by offering nutrition support to people who seemed to be addicted to their stories. They weren’t getting the killer results I was hoping they’d get and I was not excited to show up for our coaching calls. This stuck energy wasn’t working for me.

Through my questioning, I learned something very valuable here. I learned that I was being called to teach the very concepts that I myself needed to learn in order to feel whole, complete and healed as a human being.

I learned that I needed to help people by teaching you how to:

  • forgive a family member
  • naturally overcome anxiety and depression
  • arrive at your perfect weight (even if that means putting on a few pounds)
  • live a purposeful life
  • consciously create your life circumstances from a place of possibility NOT control.
  • Start a passion project that allows you to express yourself creatively (and eventually turn it into your J.O.B)

This awareness LIT me up. Almost as if I discovered a whole new Purpose. But it wasn’t.

It was simply a NEW ITERATION or expression of ME within my Purpose.

This was powerful!

Your purpose will have layers.

So, how do you get started on your journey?

You start by getting curious and answering questions.

Ask yourself 7 questions that point to your purpose.

I want you to answer the 7 questions below.

Write out the answers. Spend as much time as you can on this (but even 10 minutes is better than nothing)!

Answer the questions…

  • What am I naturally attracted to?
  • What do I like to learn about?
  • What do I like to spend my free time doing?
  • What activities fill me up and cause my heart to leap with joy? (Healthy eating, photography, fashion, yoga, interior design…?)
  • What do I spend my free time doing?
  • What do I like to watch on tv or read in a book?
  • What is missing from my life?

These questions are the beginning.

They’re the beginning of the self-discovery process for you.

They’ll lead you to learn about yourself.

You’ll become more aware. Through this awareness, you’ll bring change.

Take it slow. Be open. And most importantly, be kind to yourself.

Soulfully yours,
